Luxury Yacht Tuscany: A Private Family Experience at Sea

In June 2025, my husband William, our son Oliver, and I, Charlotte, embarked on luxury yacht family experience in Tuscany along some of the most enchanting islands: Giglio, the Formiche, and Elba.

Thanks to Alberto and the team who provided the yacht and organized everything down to the smallest detail—including a birthday cake for Oliver—we were able to fully relax and enjoy the journey. The crew on board made us feel welcome and cared for at every moment, ensuring that each stop was smooth and memorable.

We set sail early from Porto Santo Stefano, leaving the mainland behind as the morning sun sparkled on the calm waters. Our first stop was Giglio Island, famous for its crystal-clear waters, hidden coves, and excellent Giglio wines. On board, we enjoyed a tasting of the local Vermentino and Ansonica wines—light, fragrant, and perfect with fresh seafood. Oliver had his first swim among colorful fish, while William and I soaked in the scenery and savored the island’s flavors.

Next, we explored the Formiche di Grosseto, tiny rocky islets perfect for snorkeling. The peace and beauty of this untouched spot made us feel as though we had the sea all to ourselves, creating memories we will cherish forever.

Our final stop was Elba Island, rich in history and charm. Portoferraio, where we docked, is famous as the place where Napoleon Bonaparte spent his exile in 1814-1815. Walking through the streets and visiting historical sites, it was fascinating to imagine the French emperor enjoying the island’s landscape much like we did—though with a little less sunbathing and a lot more strategy!

Between exploring quaint villages and serene coves, we also visited local wineries, tasting Elba’s Aleatico and Ansonica wines, which paired beautifully with the Mediterranean cuisine on board. Watching the sunset over the Tyrrhenian Sea while sipping a glass of local wine was truly magical.

As a family from New York’s Upper East Side, we never imagined Tuscany could offer such an intimate, adventurous experience. Sailing from island to island, sharing laughter, sunsets, historical insights, and local flavors, reminded us that Tuscany’s magic isn’t only in its vineyards or historic towns—it’s also in moments like these, far from the crowds, surrounded by family, nature, and exceptional hospitality.

For families seeking a luxurious, history-rich, and family-friendly adventure, a luxury yacht experience to Tuscany’s islands—from Giglio to Elba—is an unforgettable way to discover the region’s natural beauty, historical treasures, and exquisite wines.
